alex and i both moved into apartments a couple blocks from each other a few months ago and we've been exploring the neighborhood lately. her apartment gets amazing light in the daytime and i need to shoot in it soon, more than just these couple shots.

my goal for these three weeks in paris was to take a lot of pics. i don't think i took enough, but i definitely got a few good ones that i really like. i did a shoot with a girl from ford models the other day that i'm really excited about, and i'll post as soon as i get a chance to edit.
during this trip i made pancakes almost daily and became really amazing at it, i read mindy kaling(kelly kapoor from the office)'s new book which was really great and made me laugh alone (which i never do and hate doing), i dj'd a lot with jeremie, we ate a lot of clementines, drank a lot of coffee, and watched a lot of movies. quality vacation. i am well rested. now i'm back in new york and it's great to be back. i'm heading to vegas tomorrow for vogue, then back here and starting classes and work next week! and fashion month is beginning… eek! i am actually really excited.

last week i met up with jeremy, who i work with at vogue (and who taught me everything there!) since he was in paris for holidays. we wandered through saint germain and along the seine all the way to concorde and had a great time. he just bought a canon 7D and a 50mm lens, which makes me want to pull out my 50mm more often now…
the boots i'm wearing are from heimstone, a little boutique in saint germain, and i've been wearing them almost daily since i got them. the cool thing is that the outer "collar" sort of thing is removable, so i can wear them just as sleek plain boots too.

It's been a while since i've taken photos so here's one i found of me while i was paging through old baby books with my sister on christmas. I always did have some great hairstyles if you ask me. Anyway, it was great to be back in Wisconsin for the holidays and then New York for a few days. Now I'm in Paris again till late January. So far I've been djing with Jeremie almost every night which has been great, but other than that I've got no real commitments while I'm here so I plan on taking a lot more pics and videos! x

jeremie and i bought a christmas tree on friday and spent all day doing christmasy things. we lounged around and watched back to the future and pretty woman and we ate foie gras and opened presents. he got me the best and most comfy winter coat ever from surface to air.
i just got back to new york and will be relaxing here for a few days before traveling around again for the holidays!

Thursday night I went to the party for the new Burberry store opening, and wrote about it for Vogue.com (read my article here)! It was held at the British Embassy and was one of the most beautiful parties I've been to. my parents and i went to normandie this weekend to visit the foreign exchange student that we had when i was about 12, and her family. she has a beautiful house in the country, and her family has a beautiful house in the city. so french and so perfect. we ate well, drank well, and had a lot of fun. we went to the market to buy food for a big lunch, and we went to a cute harbor-town nearby too. lots of photos to go through, maybe i'll have time tomorrow since i've got the day off for toussaints day! i've got a photoshoot planned on friday too with my friend katherin! can't wait!

i finally got my allsaints boots cleaned and fixed! they got destroyed when i was at lollapalooza. strangely, they're now shiny and black—much different than when i bought them in their classic allsaints grungy style (here's how they began).
anyway, i can't believe i only have a month and three weeks left in paris…then i'm heading back to new york before going home to wisconsin for the holidays!

i got a new lens, the canon 24-70mm 2.8 and i love it! the ability to be at f/2.8 at 70mm is great, and i love how it makes the wide angle shots look too :) so expect much more frequent posts and pictures!
we've been watching movies almost every night, so i finally saw catch me if you can, blow, studio 54 (which made me super jealous that my boss went to the party there last week!!) and more.
i also went to the fiac (an international art exhibition) at grand palais and found a bunch of cool art, which i'll make a post about soon!

wednesday - limi feu show

today was the limi feu show! it was my first show here, and i never actually went to any shows in new york, so i guess it was my first real show ever. unless you count the kate spade & st john shows at scottsdale fashion week in arizona two years ago haha.

anyway, it was great! i didn't get too many photos of the clothes…i was too distracted by the amazing hair. but the whole show had a sort of 1970s-flight-attendant-meets-modern-crazy-yoko-ono feel to it. if only i owned an airline…
oh and also, the music was perfect. this was one of the songs. i felt like i was at a party the whole time.
alright well this was the worst review ever.

real classes started this week… should be fun. lots of homework and reading though. daniel and i tried to do some homework over coffee today during our break between classes but somehow we both forgot our notebooks so we just enjoyed our coffee and took some photos. tomorrow as a school we're taking a day trip to the city of provins. we get a 6 course feast, so that lured us in. anyway, i finally found the karl lagerfeld coke bottles! and the daft punk one too. i'm keeping the bottles, they're too pretty.
also, i went thrifting the other day and found a fur coat!!! and it's perfect!! i might wait till fashion week to bust it out… but i'll definitely take some pics of it soon!!

yesterday i had class then explored around boulevard st germain some more, and then realized i had a voicemail on my little french phone. it took me about 6 years to figure out how to check it, and then i was forced to set up a voicemail greeting or something, and then i finally got to the message. i couldn't figure out who it was, or who i'd given my number to. so i called back and it was ford models europe—i totally forgot i'd emailed them last week about doing test shoots of their models, since i got my class schedule and i actually randomly have a ton of free time. they wanted me to stop by, so i went to their office in the 2eme and met with a few people and now i'm going to be doing some test shoots of their girls soon!
i'm shooting one girl tomorrow, can't wait!

on the way home i grabbed some melon and prosciutto at a market.
so good.

saturday night i met up with katherin and leonie and we drank wine and ate fries under the eiffel tower. it was really fun. yesterday it rained so we just had a lazy day, then a little dinner party later on.

i'm sad i'm missing new york fashion week, but paris fashion week will be here soon enough! i've been looking at some of the collections on vogue.com… i think jason wu's is my favorite so far. excited to see the rest :)

back in new york i got these two pairs of awesome shoes from a vintage store on 3rd ave. one pair of loafers and one pair of men's black dress shoes. i was loving them until the soles fell off of both! which makes me skeptical of the store where i bought them… but anyway, i was too busy to get them fixed in new york so i've been trying to figure out what to do and finally i stopped into a shoe repair store today by school and they told me where to find some glue. it was actually at this really cute marché right on the other side of school. it was mainly a food market but had a store with a bunch of random things like shoe glue and lightbulbs and stuff. i also stopped by the cheese man at the marché and browsed a little and he gave me little tastes of a few cheeses, cuz i couldn't decide between the gruyere, comté, or the emental. the gruyere was the best but also expensive so i went in the middle with the comté, which is amazing anyway.

i just glued my shoes back together and figured the best way to make sure the front bonded was to put them in the heater thing by the window.
hopefully they'll be back in action soon!!

also, i've been going through old photos and found this one of mike that i never edited or even looked at really. it was from the day we tried to go to the met for the mcqueen exhibit but it was already full by the time we got there :(

yesterday we had a little group scavenger hunt around campus in the 16e and so we explored around a bit. after class alanna and i went to the metro and she made it on and then the doors closed and i was left standing there on the platform and it was sad. but then i went to a boulangerie on the way home and picked up a baguette for the ripe price of 90 cents and got some cheese and prosciutto on my way home too, so i can make sandwiches in the morning to bring with me to school. class started today, just the 2 week intensive french course. then the real courses start, which seem like they're going to be fun.

yesterday after my french placement test, which went better than expected, there was a walking tour of the city for our nyu group. at first we were considering skipping it, but we ended up going and it was a lot of fun. we took a ton of pics and we learned a bunch of random facts about the city. after that we got did a little shopping and then had dinner before going out and meeting up with a few of alanna's friends in the marais. her friends both drove mopeds and i got to go on my first moped ride which was the scariest but most fun thing ever.
classes start on tuesday i believe, and fashion's night out is thursday! can't wait!

made it to paris

i made it to paris! i almost made it without forgetting anything, but i forgot my leather jacket. luckily alex is coming to visit for her birthday in a few weeks! so she'll bring it then. somehow i fell asleep immediately on the plane (after the food) and just passed out until we were landing. it felt like a 30 minute flight rather than a 7 hour one.
yesterday i got all settled into the apartment. i'm living with jake and alanna, my friends from new york. we found a cute place in the 6th. i haven't explored too much yet but i know there's a boulangerie patisserie right across the street so i'm satisfied so far. actually today i walked from the champs elysees back to our apartment so i could explore a little and take a few pics. i also picked up the september issue of french vogue and it came with a really cool fashion's night out tee.

anyway, we're off to dinner! i'll post more pics as i take them!

my last class of my summer class was on wednesday, but i've got one last paper to write that i'm finishing up today, on invasion of the bodysnatchers. only two weeks until i leave for paris! i can't believe it. alex gets back from LA today and so hopefully in these next few weeks i'll be doing a lot more fun creative things. i've got a few films to put together and more pics to take!

got this blazer at the opening ceremony sample sale! i love it! the bottom isn't hemmed but i actually really like how it looks. and these doctrine jeans are great. i found this bag at a great vintage store on 5th ave, which i got a lot of other amazing things at too. the bag was on sale and ended up only being like 20 dollars. amazing find. i've been needing a good purse for so long.

sunday - some nyc photos

alex and i went to the flaming lips show on friday at jones beach in long island and it was amazing! it was pouring rain and we got there an hour late, but luckily they didn't start till after we got there. it was actually a joint concert between flaming lips and weezer and i've never seen anything like it. they switched off every few songs and then they played a finale together. it was amazing. we also had no plan on how to get back to the city (about 45 minutes away) but we saw a coach bus in the parking lot, so we walked up and asked where it was going, and it was magically going back to the city! so we paid for a ticket and it turned out it was kind of a party bus… so it was a lot of fun!

we leave for lollapalooza on thursday! i set up interviews with some bands and i'll be taking street-style shots and making a little video for vogue.com of the event so look out for that next weekend! i'll try to post a link once it goes live on the site :)

i also stopped by the new BLK DNM store in soho and took a few pics of the place. i really like the feel of it. i think i want to start taking a bunch of pics of designer stores in new york and paris. their interiors are so great.

let me know if there are any great bands i should definitely see at lollapalooza!! :)

i was kind of inspired by the coveteur while taking these photos.

and here's a description for each one :)
1. my bed, with my new phone. these white sheets are getting way too dirty.
2. the last magazine with dried roses.
3. some polaroids.
4. this cup is the only remaining cup in a glass set i found at a thrift store near my cabin. the rest broke on the way to new york. next to it is a gold wallet that was my grandma's, and some flower clips from h&m on top of a polaroid of mike.
5. the owl on the left was my sister's that i took, and the one on the right is one i made. the statue of diana is something i got in greece when i was about 10, and somehow have kept ever since. i almost sold it in a garage sale, but then decided to keep it at the last minute.
6. i found this owl at the same thrift store that i got the glass cup at. it also broke on the way to new york but i superglued it back together. and i don't love many things more than those sunglasses.
7. these are the books on my nightstand, which include my planner, notebook, an art journal thing, and catcher in the rye, which was my moms from back in the day.
8. my favorite rag & bone shoes that alex gave me for my birthday. they might need a cleaning.
9. my chinatown fake raybans, along with an owl lamp that was my grandma's.
10. drew's framed golden girls photo with my sequin blazer.
11. the buddha statue greg brought from india for me, with a wooden peacock behind it, which maanasa got from india for me.

i realized i haven't posted in a week! i went to the opening ceremony sample sale on thursday which was a success, everything was 80% off so i got some great boots for really cheap! then I went to the hamptons for the weekend with some friends, which wasn't as much of a success. it was raining all weekend. and i brought all my cameras but no memory cards. i've been shooting film a little bit too so i'll post those when i develop them. i was sick on monday which was annoying cuz the weather was beautiful. also, my phone was stolen in the hamptons so that was no fun. luckily i had an upgrade available so a new phone wouldn't be $500, and i got a white iphone this morning.

alex comes back from france tomorrow so we'll post photos from her trip in the next few days!

started back up at work today! it was hectic with all the resort shows coming in but good to be back. it was also SO hot today. even at 9am when i was on my way to work i was sweating through my clothes. these next few days might be rough. i also forgot to water my garden this morning so it was super dry and sad when i got home! but there were actually a few strawberries for me to eat! and i watered it all and then it was okay :)
this bag is actually my friend drew's, whose place i'm subletting. i'm in need of a new black bag so i used it for the pic. i may go find a similar one now. i love the a-wang rocco duffle but that's a bit out of my price range right now… any recommendations for good big black bags to get?

today i bought a strawberry plant! and a tomato plant and a cucumber plant, and i'm going to grow them on my roof all summer :) hopefully it goes well. still organizing my apartment. photos soon. trying to finish it up today but i doubt that will happen.
i went on a little thrifting excursion to look for a cute wooden box thing to put my new plants in, but instead i found a great a-wang tee-dress at my new fav thrift store that alex showed me in the east village :)

made it back to new york after another ridiculous day of traveling. our connecting flight was delayed like three hours, ontop of a three hour layover. so we played crossword puzzles and watched zoolander and got some nachos in the airport until our flight finally boarded.

alex and i finally got to kansas for my sisters graduation after the worst day of traveling we've ever experienced. we almost missed our flight on friday morning, but then luckily found out it was delayed, and then delayed again, and again. so we decided to sleep at the gate. when we woke up over two hours later, everything was gone and it turned out our flight was cancelled because the plane was broken. we got put on another flight way later that night and got taxi vouchers to go back into the city for the day. so we went home and slept and got subway and pinkberry, before heading back to the airport.

tomorrow is the graduation ceremony & party, then we're driving to wisconsin on monday. then comes our road trip! :)

thursday - saturdays surf & 20 page essays

i stopped into saturdays surf nyc the other day to visit my friend who works there. they've got a very cool japan relief shirt right now that i almost got, but decided on a tank top instead. anyway, in front there's a simple little coffee shop, then further back is the surf/apparel shop, and in back is a really cool garden area to hang out in! which is where i took this photo. the whole place was really picture-perfect and i bet would be amazing at night too. i'd never been there before, even though i live really close to it.

anyway, i was going to save this photo for another post, but i am in the middle of writing a 20 page essay about my internship, so i needed a break.

i've got two final projects due today & a final party. i'm more than ready to get this school year over with and start the summer! in a week i fly out to kansas to go to my sister's graduation, and then i'm road tripping through the midwest for a week or so. i can't complain about new york, but i can't wait to take photos somewhere outside of the city :)

big news! alex is going to be a new facet to this blog :)
she goes to school here with me at nyu and is a music theatre major.
she's originally from chicago, and she has amazing clothes.

this fall while i'm updating from paris, she'll hopefully be updating from new york. she just needs a camera first. i just bought the canon s95 as a point & shoot camera since it's not always easy to bring my 7D around with me. i like it so far! any suggestions for other good point and shoots? (we decided s95 over g12 for sleekness)

anyway, my last day of school is on thursday and i have to write a 15 to 20 page paper about my internship! so i might be MIA for a few days.

i'd been wanting to take a pic like the top one for a while, so alex and i finally did! it was really hard to not get hit by all the cars. we chose a bad time to take photos probably.
and yesterday was the met gala! beforehand, i did a shoot with pharrell at the mondrian hotel of him getting ready for the met. check out more pics here. the met was beyond beautiful. i've never been there before (oops) and it was so amazing for this to be the first time. florence & the machine performed and it was wonderful. i wore alex's 3.1 phillip lim dress, but somehow didn't end up with any photos of me in it.
i plan on going back to the met to see the mcqueen exhibit soon though :)

my birthday was on monday! it happened to coincide with one of the busiest weeks i've had yet. apartment hunting, working, papers, homework, and a lot more. alex and drew took me to balthazar for my birthday, which was beyond amazing. and at work, they got me a cake from magnolia and surprised me with it :)

i just got these palladium boots too. i've been wanting white boots for a while. and they're even more awesome because they're super lightweight. perfect summer boots. and on the first reeeally warm day, alex and i took pictures on the roof.

i've been doing too much lately and finally got sick today. i caught up on sleep and did my laundry (possibly one of the reasons i'm sick? i feel like my feet get so dirty on my floor from the streets and then get in my bed and then i am in my bed…) i'm feeling a little better now. and i'm getting liquiteria food later too to cleanse!!

big news though! i'm probably going to cannes film festival!! my friend john's film got in and so i'm going to go along with him and shoot some street style and have a great time! just as long as i figure out my apartment situation, because i need to move out of my dorm right as cannes is happening.

does anyone know anyone who lives near cannes that would be able to house 2 of us for a few days? :) :)
we also are planning on being in paris for about 3 days too!

i got this dress at topshop's sale the other day and am so excited to wear it in france.

just thought i'd post a few things i've been liking a lot lately. i just got the flower hairclips from h&m and love wearing them with my hair up. the sunglasses are from 80spurple.com 80s collection, the lipstick is MAC ruby woo (bright red), the shirt is h&m, the key was actually a key from my grandpa's house that I put on a chain, and the nail polish is american apparel in "summer peach." and i pulled my camera out because i need to start shooting more film!!

i've had them on repeat all week. the whole album is beyond amazing.

katrina is visiting me for the weekend and we got brunch at café orlin in the east village this morning. later we're planning on seeing the bill cunningham documentary, which looks great. yesterday we went shopping and i found these amazing leggings/pants at topshop in the "last chance to buy" section. i'm in love.
the other day at work i got to shoot a few models for the new "model wall" and while i was waiting for them i snapped a few pictures inside the editors office. i also put together a little video of the girls that will hopefully be posted on the site, otherwise i'll post it here soon!

today i got to go see the london show rooms in the soho grand hotel because i was assisting a shoot. i had to get there at 7am to start setting up, and it was pouring rain outside which was unfortunate because the event took place in the penthouse which had a gorgeous deck. it was a fun event though, and i got to take home one of the david koma bags for the british designer collab with the british fashion council.

another nice day in new york! 57º out, probably still too cold for shorts, but i survived. i'm packing and cleaning today since tomorrow i fly to arizona for a week! i'm very ready for warm weather and sunshine.
i got this shirt about two years ago and rarely wear it, so i decided it was time. also, this amazing rag & bone blazer is my friend alex's, and i think i need to get one of my own. i love it.
i also got my hair trimmed yesterday. it feels so soft and great now, and hopefully it'll lighten up a bit in arizona.

last night i got to shoot the grand opening of the mondrian hotel. the night started out pretty horribly, because i lost my wallet on the way there. luckily someone picked it up and i got it back today, but i freaked out for a good hour, and on top of that, i've never experienced a rainstorm so violent, and by the time i got to the party i was soaking wet, because i lived way too close to take a taxi. but it got better quickly. there was a special performance by the kills which made me love them even more, and now i'm even more excited to see them play again on saturday night! there were a lot of fun people at the party, and lots of cool grungy clothes. i love those studded boots, and that leather tassel jacket. the afterparty was at Mr. H, which is part of the hotel, and which is where i took the photo of that amazing neon sign.

i woke up today to the sun shining in and an email telling me i didnt have to go in to work today! it's 60º out in new york today too which is great.
yesterday i found out that i was accepted to the paris study abroad program! which was a relief since only about half the applicant get accepted. I'll be moving out there in late august and staying till december. i can't wait!

the weather has been amazinggg so i was walking home from school yesterday rather than taking the subway or bus, and of course that means i pass by all the stores, and stopped into h&m. i saw the movie blue valentine, and in it, michelle williams wore a really cute babydoll dress sort of thing (i think that's what the style is called) and it made me really want one. so of course what do i find, but a perfect one at h&m! along with a maxi skirt, a jacket on sale, and a soft buttondown.

fashion week roundup

ah! new york fashion week has ended, and i don't think i've been home during daylight hours the entire time.
when i wasn't in class, i was at vogue working on the website, getting previews and shows sized and ready and posted as quickly as possible, which actually went pretty smoothly for the most part. if you haven't been checking out vogue.com to see the runway shows, you really should. the candids and details that are posted with the shows are great.

anyway, my friend mike came into town on thursday night, and we caught up over sushi and went to a handful of fashion week parties. the tribeca grand party was amazing and i saw so many amazing clothes, and it pretty much made me hate my wardrobe. the mandy coon afterparty at bedlam was amazing as well.
mike and i also did a photoshoot, which i'll post online soon, but here's a sneak peak :)

i didn't get to go to any shows since i was either in class, at vogue, sleeping, or out, but i did peruse them all, and there are a few parts that i've been loving.

vera wang: the sheer pieces with the feathers and the bulky jackets, amazing.

alexander wang: bravo.

michael kors: this jacket. mmmm!

thakoon: the plaid! i love it.

the row: too elegant for my personal style, but oh my god, the fur!! and the men's look!

rag & bone: i loved the simple pieces.

of course marc jacobs: so different and i'm really impressed. i loved hamish's comment about it being cartoonish. very vintage cartoony.

for now, those are the ones that stood out to me. i'm sure there are more amazing standout pieces that i'm missing. my brain has been running on little to no sleep for the past two weeks, so that's what i have to work with :)

i'm very excited to see the shows in the next few weeks!! i saw the acne collection while i was at work today, and it looks amazing, as always! very excited to see the show.

i got some new glasses finally! they're chanel from the denim collection which is strange. the case is awkward denim but whatever. today my roommate and i are going to go take some photos outside. i love my new room! the light is so great. and it's actually really big. luckily i've got nothing to do today because it's martin luther king day! but tomorrow i'll be back at vogue :)

today is my day to get things done!

i started my internship at vogue this past week and it's going really well! i love it, and i have cool responsibilities that range from typical intern things like coffee runs and picking up & delivering packages, to actually having a say in things. like right now if you go to the site, i found and chose the red carpet photo at the top, and if you go to the aggregator page where it says all the new fashion news, i found the articles and wrote the little summaries :) i'll be working there 2 days a week, along with classes, which start next week!

i'm not enthused with the new vanity fair cover. i was hoping 2011 would be the year where j-biebs is no longer.
i started the day out with some coffee and oatmeal and now i'm gonna clean up my room and then go shopping! i have my eye on a fur coat in a thrift store in the village, but god knows how much it will cost. also i want some lace shorts. or knit shorts. we'll see. also i need a new purse. any suggestions on a good purse i should buy? right now i'm thinking alexander wang…
